BEAUTIFUL Fast Facts

BEAUTIFUL is the first trial assessing the morbidity-mortality benefits of the pure heart rate–lowering agent Ivabradine (Procoralan®)*.

BEAUTIFUL evaluates in coronary artery disease patients with left ventricular dysfunction, the benefits of Ivabradine beyond current preventive therapy in terms of:

  • Cardiovascular mortality
  • Hospital admission for acute myocardial infarction
  • Hospital admission for new-onset or worsening heart failure

BEAUTIFUL provides unique information on the importance of elevated heart rate in cardiovascular disease and the benefits of an interventional pharmacological therapy that exclusively reduces heart rate.

10 917 patients at 781 centers in 33 different countries are participating in the BEAUTIFUL study.

The principal results of the BEAUTIFUL study were presented in September 2008 at the ESC congress in Munich, Germany.

In the BEAUTIFUL study, 13.8% of patients had limiting angina at baseline. The effect of ivabradine on the reduction of coronary events in patients with limiting angina at baseline was released at the ESC Congress in Barcelona, Spain, in September 2009.
